Biography
Emmanuelle de l'Ecotais holds a PhD in Fine Arts. Since 2001 she has been the head of the photo collection at Le Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. She is a specialist in the work of Man Ray, her thesis subject. She has curated exhibitions such as: Man Ray, la photographie à l'envers (Centre Pompidou / Grand Palais 1998), Alexandre Rodtchenko, la photographie dans l'œil (Musée d'art moderne, 2007), Objectivités, la photographie à Düsseldorf (ARC, 2008), Henri Cartier-Bresson, l'imaginaire d'après nature (Musée d'Art moderne, 2009), Bernhard and Anna Blume, Polaroïd (Maison européenne de la photographie, 2010), Linder, Femme- Objet (Musée d'Art moderne/ARC, 2013).
She is the author of many books: L'Esprit Dada (Editions Assouline, 1999), Man Ray (Taschen, 2000), Man Ray - Rayographies (Editions Léo Scheer, 2002). Since 2007 she has been an active member of the acquisition commission of the museum La Maison Européenne de la Photographie. From 2004 to 2007, she was part of the acquisition committee of the National Funds of Contemporary Art. She is a jury member of the Paris Jeunes Talents pour les arts visuels awards, the Royal Monceau Hotel prize, and the photography prize of Treilles's foundation. She was the artistic advisor for the HSBC prize for photography in 2013. Currently she is preparing a retrospective of the surrealist photographer Wols (Autumn 2014, Musée d'Art Moderne).
