Biography
After studying graphic design and photography in Paris, Xavier Barral first became press photographer, and he worked as art director for several magazines. In 1992 he founded, with Annette Lucas and Stephen Trapier, Atalanta, an agency of cultural creation and visual communication that designs identities of many French institutions including the Paris Opera, the Theatre du Rond-Point, the Cartier Foundation contemporary art, etc…
Meanwhile, Xavier Barral worked with several publishing houses and signed for the world of art books and exhibition which Doisneau / Renault, Paris-Atget, Andy Warhol, film and Valparaiso Sergio Larrain catalogs.
In 2002, he founded the Xavier Barral and Publishing publishes books dealing with new forms of photography, contemporary art and science. Each book is a singular object where aesthetics prevail and graphic choices. Looks cross between artists and writers from around the world such as Daniel Buren, Sophie Calle, Dallaporta, Raymond Depardon, Rinko Kawauchi, Josef Koudelka, Erik Orsenna, Jean-Baptiste de Panafieu, and Hiroshi Sugimoto.
Among the works critically acclaimed, D'après nature of Jean Gaumy (2010) and Vers l’Orient of Marc Riboud (2012) received the Prix Nadar. Anticorps Antoine d'Agata, has recieved book Award for Author of Les Rencontres d'Arles 2013 and more recently, Sergio Larrain (2013) received the Book Award Krasna-Krausz 2014.
