Biography

Award-winning international photographer Juliet Taylor discovered her passion for photography in a twist of fate while studying dentistry in Nottingham, the United Kingdom. Taking improvised photographs of her colleagues on a night out, Taylor stumbled upon her natural state behind the lens and has since not looked back. At 20 years old, she left to Sydney and has gone on to develop a career that’s seen her shoot for advertising agencies across Australia, Paris, New Zealand and the UK.

Determined to master the art of her craft early, Taylor moved to Melbourne and set out on her journey assisting industry acclaimed photographers, and during this time,
developed a deep understanding of photography. In 2007 she returned to Sydney.
With over 10 years experience behind the camera, Taylor is now positioned as one of Australia’s top advertising photographers and her flair for capturing honest and arresting subject matter has not gone unnoticed.

Internationally renowned agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi (Sydney and Paris), DDB New Zealand, Clemenger BBDO, Whybin TBWA, Ogilvy, BWM, McCann, Clemenger, Leo Burnett and BMF call upon Taylor for her rare combination of original ideas, concept solving skills and her ease with shooting challenging subjects. Her work has sprung to life an array of campaigns for global clients including Nissan, Renault, Singapore Airlines, Virgin, Fox Sports, Telstra, Ford, Fosters, Procter & Gamble and Pfizer.

Commercially represented in both Australia and France, Taylor has built up a vast portfolio that has gained recognition at home and further abroad in leading publications including Australian Creative (where she won Australian Hotshop Photographer of the Year 2006), Capture Magazine and B&T. She is listed in the Luerzer's Archive top 200 ad photographers of the world, and in 2012, was featured as the only Australian female photographer.

Recently turning her attention to live motion, Taylor now directs television commercials and music videos and finds the natural progression towards moving images as a complimentary creative outlet that supports her photography. When not absorbed in her commercial projects, Taylor enjoys preparing personal work for select books and exhibitions, allowing her the space to experiment and invent new avenues to express the world around her.

A firm believer in investigating innovative ways to execute the brief, Taylor employs the latest in professional digital technology for both the shooting and post- production processes. Constantly sourcing inspiration in unlikely places, including the imagery of surrealism, the fluidity of painted canvases to the sensory stimulation of ongoing travel, her striking and dynamic images reflect her passionate conviction that "a photographer's most powerful tool is the mind".

Aside from photography, Taylor is most happy when she can explore, play chess and invent.
