Biographie

Ioana Mello is a Brazilian independent curator working on artistic relations between Europe and Latin America. She has a master's degree in art history and philosophy, as well as in aesthetics and photography, and an MBA from Sotheby's Art Institute, London. She works with galleries and collectives. She takes part in festivals such as Imago Lisboa 2022, Photodays, Rencontres d'Arles 2019/ 2022/ 2023, Photo Things, Foto em Pauta, among others. She is also one of the six artistic directors of the FotoRio festival in Rio de Janeiro, since 2015.
She teaches courses and was a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) from 2016 to 2018. She was a jury member of the 2017/2018 Alliance Française Web Photo Prize, the 2022 Cali Fotofest festival and the 2023 Sony World Award. She is a member of the committee for Brazilian photography at BnF, is organizing a book on photography and psychoanalysis and writes for magazines such as Fisheye and WeDemain.
