The Samburu are semi-nomadic shepherds who live in Kenya to the North of the equator and to the South of the Lake Turkana, in an area that offers various habitats, ranging from mountain woods to pasture plains and desert areas. Like in other African cultures, in the Samburu culture the transition from one stage of life to another or change of marital status are events that are accompanied by rituals and ceremonies that have their roots in the ancient tradition. The main occupation of a moran is to defend the cattle, this involving planning raids in the villages of rival ethnic groups to steal their livestock.
