Le 28 février 2010 à la Faute-sur-mer lors de la tempête Xynthia, la mer a submergé la digue qui protégeait ce village. A certains endroits le niveau d'eau a atteint 2,80 m faisant 29 morts. Par la suite 600 maisons ont été détruites pour éviter un nouveau drame.
