Le Flat iron est construit selon un plan triangulaire, dessiné par l'architecte américain Daniel Burnham, qui appartenait à l'école de Chicago. Les trois façades sont divisées horizontalement en trois parties. Le Flatiron building fut construit en deux ans. Il pèse environ 332 000 tonnes. Il a une structure en acier. Cette vue souligne parfaitement le triangle rectangle avec son angle parfaitement droit.
