Kenya
Kakuma refugee camp is located in the North-western region of Kenya. It is divided into four parts: Kakuma 1, 2, 3 and 4. Since it was established in 1992 the population has increased to over 195,000 registered refugees and asylum-seekers. I spent two days in Kakuma with the international NGO Humanity & Inclusion (Handicap International). My trip was delayed and shortened after a storm flooded the camp and its airstrip. It was my first visit to a refugee camp.
