Man’s wastefulness through images. The United Nation’s Climate Conference (COP21) will be held from the 30th of November until the 11th of December in Paris. What is at stake? The ratification and signature of a historic treaty that will limit our greenhouse gas emissions and in turn limit the global rise in temperature. In order to mark the occasion, Wipplay and the daily Libération are organising a photo contest around the theme “Man and natural resources: a tale of wastefulness”. Coal, gas and petrol have given our society the means to build and produce, yet the greenhouse gasses that are emitted during their extraction and combustion have a significant impact on our environment: Melting of the ice caps, rising of the sea level, desertification, coastal erosion.
The contest’s thematic isn’t pretty but shouldn’t deter your from taking beautiful pictures. The jury comprised of Libération’s Editorial board and photographer Allesandro Puccinelli will select the 3 images they deem most aesthetic. The 3 photos that accumulate the most votes will be presented with the famous wipplayer’s award.
