Biography

Born in Tonnerre in 1964. Lives in Paris.
Through landscape photography, Laurent Gueneau transforms space into paths to give life to relationships of forms that connect him to his environment. Guided by his sense of intuition more than by the geographical map folded into eight in the bottom of his pocket, he explores the fragility of balance with the help of his camera, in order to tune his working tool to his own rhythm.

In 1994 he published "Les tombeaux qui font sourire la mort" in Connaissance des Arts, the first chamber work on the imperial tombs in Hué, former imperial capital of Vietnam. This was followed by a long work in various cities of Eastern Europe, exhibited notably at La Filature in Mulhouse and in numerous festivals in France. In 2001, he published "26.12.1999", Landscapes after the storm Lothar commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture. Here he is focusing on the study of light and lines of force in the landscape and not so much on its desolation. In 2005, he was invited to Guangzhou for a residency where he began a new work on landscape that led him to question the urban and the vegetal. This work was selected for the 2006 edition of the Rencontres d'Arles. Since then, he has been regularly invited in residence to pursue an investigation on urban networking. His work has notably been exhibited at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, the Rencontres d'Arles, the National Library of France, the Atlantic Center of Photography in Brest, the National Stages of Tarbes, Vandoeuvre and Mulhouse and in numerous festivals. In 2008, the Guongdong Museum of Art devoted a monographic exhibition to him and he participated in the exhibition "Les Français photographient la Chine, 1844-2014" at the Today Art Museum. "Canton, Portrait de ville" has just been published by Be-Pôles Editions.
