Biographie
Esther Hovers is a Dutch artist who graduated with a BA in photography from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, in 2015. Since graduating, her work has been featured in numerous international exhibitions, including C/O Berlin Foundation, Alan Gallery in Istanbul, Circulation(s) Festival in Paris, Foam - Photography Museum of Amsterdam and the National Gallery in Pragua - as well as in publications such as the Washington Post, M Le Magazine du Monde and the British Journal of Photography. In her practice Esther Hovers investigates how power, politics and control are exercised through urban planning and the use of public space. Her work also aims to discuss 'control' in a political sense. What is the position of the individual within a predetermined system?
In 2017 Esther Hovers was the laureate of the Edward Steichen Award, for which she will be an artist-in-residence at the ISCP (International Studio & Curatorial Program) in Brooklyn, NY in 2018.
